Yet another player in the arena.. alas! No different though

May 28, 2007

Techcrunch reports rise of a new player in the asia-pacific recruitment market. As for any site there is this chicken and egg problem ie.., members don’t come to you because you don’t have jobs and jobs won’t come because there are no members.  Some how collect all the job listings in all other sites and  help the user find a job. The syndication of feeds between the other players does this “Somehow” task. I understand that there is wider reach for the jobs posted in one site but clearly there is no refinement in the process of suggesting right jobs to the job seekers and right applicants to the Employers. There is no novelty in the approach to solve the problem. All they are trying is to become big brother of these small firms and model their business on commissions earned by suggesting jobs probably. Why do people tend to follow the crowd? Why can’t they think of solving the problem in a creative and effective way?

Gosh! We need some creative products to solve this critical problem of finding livelihood. It demands more attention from the thinkers and entrepreneurs.

So here is the first lesson in career!

Ya ! I am talking about the lesson i received  in the profession recently. For every organization there will be a plan which though not perfect works as a guideline for the workers. Most of the times the strategists commit mistakes in planning which affects the company. I know a firm where the strategists have taken at most care to sketch a plan and what’s more disappointing is to see this plan which seemed so perfect fails before implementing it. The reason for this failure is the dependence on humans. An employee who promised his arrival into the Organization sends a letter one week before the joining date and says he cannot leave the old company. The organization has a plan and he has a role to play which is significant given the size of the company, Now the plan is useless or needs many patches to keep it effective and efficient.

I have understood that contingency planning is the best way to go.  Be pessimistic about the things in short run and be optimistic about the things in long run, ie.., Organisation should have been continiously doubting that the employee might not join and should have plan B in place. Though we doubt that things can go wrong, we should believe that everything will be alright in the end and nothing in the world waits for anyone..Just keep moving with renewed vigor and commitment to success.
